This large farmhouse had undergone multiple extensions over the years, resulting in a mix of construction styles. The original section was a timber frame, while the later additions were solid masonry walls with no cavity or insulation.
To properly insulate the timber-framed section, we installed a rail system incorporating insulation, followed by a high-quality render finish. For the solid masonry walls, we applied a breathable external wall insulation system, ensuring the building retained its traditional character while significantly improving thermal efficiency. We then used a breathable silicate render to complete the finish and rebuilt all window sills, achieving an authentic restoration.
As a result, this project successfully eliminated issues of internal damp, mould, and heat loss through the previously uninsulated walls. The homeowner is extremely happy with the outcome, enjoying both the enhanced comfort and the restored aesthetic of their farmhouse.
