We were instructed to carry out specialist lime rendering and restoration works to this timber-framed property in Colwall near Malvern. Previous cement-based render and metal mesh had deteriorated, creating issues with the wall’s ability to breathe and manage moisture effectively.
After carefully removing the unsuitable materials, we installed loose wood fibre insulation within the wall void before constructing new timber studwork to support a woodwool carrier board. The property was then prepared using a traditional lime putty scratch coat reinforced with natural hair, creating a breathable base for the lime render system.
This approach helps improve thermal performance while maintaining the breathability required for traditional and historic buildings.
