Insulated Lime Render – Lydney , Gloucestershire

This period property in Lydney had suffered significant neglect under its previous owners. It was covered in a cement-based render and an unbreathable paint, which stripped the building of its original character and caused moisture to become trapped. As a result, condensation built up inside, leading to mould and damp issues.

Fortunately, the new owners recognised these problems and understood their causes. They asked us to assess the property and propose a solution that would preserve its historic charm while allowing it to breathe and remain future-proof. To achieve this, we removed the existing cement render and replaced it with a Class A fire-rated Rockwool insulation board, which was mechanically fixed and glued to the bare brick.

We then applied three coats of carefully selected lime aggregates and sand, creating a smooth, flat finish. Finally, we painted the entire property with a potassium silicate paint, ensuring breathability and longevity. This new insulated lime render system will protect the property for generations to come while maintaining its authentic character.
