We work with homeowners, architects, conservation specialists and building contractors throughout Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Warwickshire, Shropshire, the West Midlands and surrounding counties.

Timber frame buildings behave very differently to masonry properties. Timber naturally expands and contracts with changes in temperature and humidity, while also relying on the free movement of water vapour through the wall structure. If moisture becomes trapped within the construction, it can lead to damp, mould growth and, in severe cases, deterioration of the timber frame itself.
This is why breathable wall systems are so important. Rather than sealing the building with dense, impermeable materials, breathable insulation and lime-based renders allow moisture to escape naturally while significantly improving the thermal performance of the property. The result is a warmer, healthier home that is better protected against condensation and long-term moisture-related problems.
Our breathable External Wall Insulation systems are carefully selected to work with the natural movement of timber frame buildings. Combined with insulated lime rendering or traditional lime finishes where appropriate, they help improve comfort, reduce heating costs and protect the structural integrity of the property for many years to come.

External Wall Insulation works by creating a continuous insulated layer around the outside of the building, helping to reduce heat loss and eliminate many of the cold bridges found within older properties. Because the insulation is installed externally, the internal living space remains unchanged while the entire building benefits from improved thermal efficiency.
For timber frame buildings, selecting the correct insulation and render system is essential. We use breathable materials that allow moisture to move naturally through the wall construction while protecting the property from wind-driven rain and the changing British climate. When combined with lime-based finishes, the system provides an attractive appearance while supporting the long-term health of the building.
The result is a home that stays warmer during the winter, cooler in the summer and significantly more energy efficient throughout the year. Many homeowners also notice reduced condensation, lower heating bills and a more comfortable indoor environment following installation.
Timber frame buildings can benefit significantly from a professionally designed External Wall Insulation (EWI) system. Unlike traditional cavity wall insulation, External Wall Insulation creates a continuous thermal envelope around the property, reducing heat loss and improving comfort throughout the year.
For timber-framed homes, the choice of insulation and render is particularly important. Breathable systems help regulate moisture movement within the wall construction, reducing the risk of condensation while protecting the structural timber beneath. When combined with Insulated Lime Rendering or other compatible breathable finishes, the result is a warmer, healthier and more energy-efficient home.
Many homeowners notice lower heating bills, fewer cold spots and a more consistent indoor temperature after installation. In addition to improving energy efficiency, External Wall Insulation can enhance the appearance of older timber frame properties, increase their lifespan and contribute to improved EPC ratings, making them more attractive to future buyers.
Whether your property is a period timber-framed cottage or a modern timber frame home, the right insulation system can improve both comfort and long-term building performance.
Timber frame buildings have been designed to manage moisture naturally for hundreds of years. Unlike modern masonry construction, the timber structure relies on breathable materials that allow water vapour to pass through the walls rather than becoming trapped inside them.
This is why lime has remained one of the most trusted building materials for both historic and modern timber frame properties. Lime render and lime plaster are naturally vapour permeable, allowing buildings to breathe while providing excellent weather protection and flexibility.
When combined with a carefully designed breathable External Wall Insulation system, lime helps create a wall construction that works with the building rather than against it. Moisture can escape naturally, helping to reduce condensation and minimise the risk of timber decay while improving thermal performance.
W specialise in breathable wall systems that combine traditional lime craftsmanship with modern insulation technology. Every specification is carefully selected to suit the age, construction and condition of the property, ensuring long-term performance without compromising the health of the building.
One of the most common mistakes made during timber frame renovations is applying cement-based render to a building that was originally designed to breathe.
Cement render creates a hard, relatively impermeable surface. While suitable for some modern construction methods, it can prevent moisture from escaping from traditional or timber-framed buildings. Over time, trapped moisture may contribute to dampness, cracking, deterioration of timber elements and expensive repair work.
Lime render behaves very differently. It remains flexible, allowing for the natural movement that occurs within timber frame construction, while also allowing water vapour to pass through the wall. This breathable performance helps protect the structure and creates a healthier internal environment.
For this reason, breathable lime rendering is often the preferred solution for timber frame buildings, particularly where long-term durability, moisture management and sympathetic restoration are priorities.
External wall insulation provides a robust protective layer that shields the timber frame from wind, rain and environmental wear. The render finish improves both durability and appearance, making the home more resilient and visually appealing.
WP Rendering is trained and approved by leading insulation system manufacturers including Ecorend and Rockwool. We ensure that every timber frame installation uses appropriate breathable materials and correct detailing.
Every installation includes a 25-year insurance-backed guarantee, ensuring long-term performance and customer confidence.

Every timber frame property presents its own challenges, which is why we never recommend a one-size-fits-all solution. Before any work begins, our team carefully assesses the existing construction, the condition of the timber frame and the suitability of breathable insulation and render systems.
On a recent timber frame project in Worcestershire, the existing external finish had reached the end of its serviceable life and the property suffered from poor thermal performance and significant heat loss. Following a detailed survey, we designed and installed a breathable External Wall Insulation system finished with a high-quality lime-compatible render.
The completed project not only transformed the appearance of the property but also significantly improved its thermal efficiency, helping the homeowners enjoy a warmer home with lower heating costs while maintaining the breathability of the timber structure.
By selecting materials that work together as part of a complete breathable wall system, we were able to improve comfort, protect the building fabric and provide a long-lasting finish that complements the character of the property.
While many timber frame buildings can benefit from External Wall Insulation, every property should be individually assessed before work begins.
Factors such as the age of the building, the existing external finish, moisture levels, ventilation, structural condition and previous alterations all influence the most appropriate insulation system. Listed buildings and conservation properties may also require additional considerations to ensure any work respects the character of the building.
This is why every project at WP Rendering begins with a thorough site survey. Our experience with breathable lime systems, timber frame construction and heritage properties allows us to recommend solutions that balance energy efficiency with the long-term health of the building.
Rather than applying a standard system to every property, we tailor each specification to suit the construction of the individual building, ensuring the finished system performs as intended for many years to come.

Not normally one for doing reviews but Steve managed to squeeze my job in so I could make use of the green homes scheme before it closed and the job they did is spot on. From start to finish, very pleased from the office to the guys carrying out the work.
WP Rendering have just completed a beautiful job on the rear of our new farm house. The work has been done to a very high standard by a qualified hard working team, leaving the site clean and tidy, I can not recommend them highly enough. A very satisfactory job.
Thanks for everything guys! we are so pleased. communication was great, and the finished piece was even better than we expected! would highly recommend this this company! Thanks Steve.
This is the second time my family have used this company now and they’ve never let us down! Excellent service! Great communication! I couldn’t recommend them enough.
Very pleased with the insulated render, our home is now warmer and looks great from the outside.
Steve’s team of three led by Simon have a work ethic second to none, they are very hard-working, polite and cleared up every day. The project was completed quickly, only being constrained by the short daylight hours and occasional rain in January. By its nature the work is messy at times but the house and surrounding ground were well covered and left clean and tidy when the work was finished.
Excellent job done of rendering top half of house with thermal no maintenance render. The team that carried out the work cannot be faulted, very hard working, answered any queries and cleared paths etc when they went home every day. As with any building work, expect a little mess but it was kept to a minimum. The only downside is that having the work done in the wetter months causes delays – absolutely no fault of WP Rendering.
Thanks so much for doing an amazing job of the render of our house, it’s made a huge difference we couldn’t be happier. Great team of guys working on it & they did a great job protecting our patio & left the place immaculate. Would highly recommend.
The whole job ran smoothly from start to finish possibly due to the influence of the boss Steve. I would and have recommended WP to anyone I know looking for a rendering job, the 4 guys were polite, professional and I couldn’t fault their work ethic. The finished product I can’t fault and when the team left site they left everything clean and tidy. The team Carlos,Pedro,Nelson and Antonio couldn’t do enough to help and they battled on through all weathers.
Excellent, fast friendly service. Great job with a professional tidy team! Went above and beyond including doing small jobs that weren’t anything to do with them! Really could not get a better company! Would recommend to anyone!
